LACTLD’s 2012 economic affairs workshop is framed within a context of substantive changes in the current TLD system. The launch of the new TLD program on January 12 implies the entry of new players with new business models, commercial strategies and mindsets.
The program attempts at dealing with the new scenario mainly from an economic/market perspective, analyzing these changes, both from current gTLD experiences, and by anticipating those that will emerge with the new network of players in the domain name realm.
A second objective of the program is centered in analyzing the changes within the Registry/Registrar structure. The the appearance of mixed models and the experiences undergone, or currently in the process of doing so, by many ccTLDs in the region makes this a key issue to understand, amongst other issues, the new dynamics of TLDs and their search for registrars.
Lastly, the workshop looks at best practices of different ccTLDs in LAC and globally in topics such as marketing strategies and positioning, new business models and communication strategies.
