CENTR published in October its DomainWire* for Q3, a statistical quarterly report on ccTLD domain names with a European focus and interesting insights on the Latin American market and other regional trends.
The total amount of domain names registered by ccTLD and gTLD (former and new) in September 2015 rose to 298.4 million (reaching rapidly to 300). This is an increase of 1.6% since june. This figure consists of ccTLDs, former gTLDs and new gTLDs. 46% for the first ones, 51.4% correspond to former gTLDs and 2.6% for new gTLDs.
Market share of new gTLDs has grown from 2.2% in the second quarter to almost 3% in the third quarter 2015. The highest combined growth has been found in this group, standing at 28.7%, followed by ccTLDs IDN, with 1.3%, then ccTLDs (1.0%) and finally former gTLDs (0.9%).
In the classic list of the 20 largest ccTLDs of the world, .tk leads the postion with 28.6 million domain names, followed by .de, 16 and .cn, with 12.5 million. In this group, .br (8th) and .co (15th) are included.
