Support from the international community for an open WSIS+10 and the renewal of the IGF mandate

Following the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Brazil on 10-13 November, LACTLD, together with over 25 other organisations, co-signed a statement on the WSIS+10 Review process, supporting the renewal of the IGF mandate. The declaration text mentioned three key messages: 1) The IGF, harnessing the benefits of the community’s diversity, has become a primary vehicle for identifying issues and solutions through a collaborative approach; 2) The multistakeholder approach, cooperatively developed since the inception of the Internet is critical in achieving the WSIS goals; 3) There is still much work to be done, especially in connecting the unconnected and to achieve these goals, and to ensure a secure and trustworthy Internet, it is crucial that the future of the Internet be shaped through an open, inclusive and truly multistakeholder process.
