The LACTLD Policy Workshop and Assembly (6-7 May) was held at the Paradisus Hotel in Cancun – Mexico, in conjunction with .mx y LACNIC21.
We had the participation of 19 LACTLD members and a visit from a representative of South Korea ccTLD (.kr). We also welcomed members from ICANN, IANA, Microsoft, PCH and IntermetX. That amounted a total of 36 participants.
During the first day (starting at 2 pm.) We had the presence of the Vice President of IANA Elise Gerich, who updated us regarding the roles and recent events that had to do with the internationalization of the functions of that Organization. After that, all the attendees gathered in small groups and discussed about possible scenarios after the internationalization of the IANA functions and was moderated by Oscar Robles from .mx.
The second day included presentations like the one made by Desiree Miloshevic from Afilias who spoke about Good Practices on ccTLDs. After that, Gabriel Brenta from .ar presented on new tuition policies and other .ar innovations. Also, Lito Ibarra presented on the implementation of Dot Award program in El Salvador, Eduardo Santoyo offered a .CO Internet update and Frederico Neves presented an updated draft of the LACTLD Anycast. Later on, it took place a Panel which had the participation of Raúl Echeberría (LACNIC), Rodrigo de la Parra (ICANN), Eduardo Santoyo (.CO) and Carolina Aguerre (LACTLD), which referred to Internet Governance issues in times of NTIA transition from a regional perspective.
Finally the workshop closed the day with a discussion along the NTIA transition and the creation of a document on behalf of the regional ccTLDs.
