Constitución de LACTLD

En la ciudad de Montevideo, Uruguay, en el entorno previo a las reuniones de ICANN, el día 5 de septiembre, fue firmado el Memorando de Entendimiento que formaliza la organización de Registradores de Nombres de Dominio de Nivel Superior de Código de País, conocidos como ccTLDs en la jerga Internet, de la región Latinoamericana y el Caribe.

LACTLD, como es conocida la organización que ha venido trabajando desde 1998 de manera no oficial, atenderá y buscará velar por los intereses de los ccTLDs.  Esta comunidad juega un rol muy importante en el crecimiento y difusión de la herramienta de comunicación contemporánea más importante, Internet, en los países de Latinoamérica y el Caribe.

Quince representantes de los Registradores de similar número de países han firmado el Memorando, que define los principales objetivos y los grupos de trabajo iniciales de LACTLD, y es seguro que muchos más ccTLDs de la región se sumarán a tal documento en el futuro cercano, consolidando y fortaleciendo la incipiente organización.

Entre los objetivos de LACTLD, se destacan el intercambio de experiencias entre los colegas, la discusión y toma de posición conjunta en temas que vinculan a los Registradores e ICANN, así como otros de mayor alcance en el tiempo, tales como llegar a proveer información estadística acerca del desarrollo cuantitativo de Internet en la región de una forma continua y de primera mano.

LACTLD ha elegido como miembros representantes de la Junta Provisional a Rafael Ibarra, de .SV, El Salvador, como Presidente; Oscar Robles, de .MX, México, como Vice-Presidente; y Margarita Valdés, de .CL, Chile, como Secretaria.

LACTLD compartirá foros internacionales al mismo nivel que organizaciones similares en otras regiones del mundo, tales como CENTR (Europa) y APTLD (Asia Pacífico), lo que sin duda redundará en altos beneficios para el sano desarrollo de los nombres de dominio correspondientes a los países latinoamericanos y caribeños.

LACTLD Constitution

In the city of Montevideo, Uruguay, during the previous days to the ICANN meetings, on September the 5th, a Memorandum of Understanding that formalizes an organization of the country code Top Level Domain Registries, known as ccTLDs in the Internet jargon, for the Latin American and Caribean region, was signed.

LACTLD, as the organization is known, has been working in a unofficial manner since 1998, and will look after the interests of the Latin America and Caribean ccTLDs. This community plays a very important role in the growth and deployment of the key tool of our times, Internet, in the countries belonging to Latin America and the Caribe.

Fifteen representatives of Registries from a similar number of countries have signed the Memorandum, which defines the main objectives and initial work groups for LACTLD, and surely many more ccTLDs from the region will add up to the document in the near future, consolidating and making the organization stronger.

Among LACTLD objectives, the exchange of experiences between peers and the discussion and joint position on relevant and ICANN-related topics, may be highlighted, as well as some more long term goals, such as providing first hand statistical information on the cuantitative development of Internet in the region in a continous way.

LACTLD has elected as its interim board of directors Rafael Ibarra, from .SV, El Salvador, as President; Oscar Robles, from .MX, Mexico, as Vicepresident; and Margarita Valdés, from .CL, Chile, as Secretary.

LACTLD will share international fora at the same level as similar organizations from other regions of the world, such as CENTR (Europe) and APTLD (Asia Pacific), which undoubtdely will turn in great benefits for the healthy development of domain names in the Latin American and Caribean countries.
