LACTLD position on the wwTLD meeting in Kuala Lumpur (2004/05)
LACTLD expresa su posición en torno a las reuniones de wwTLD programadas para la reunión de ICANN en Kuala Lumpur
To the ccTLD community:
In the light of the coming ICANN meeting to be held in Kuala
Lumpur, the members of LACTLD want to express that:
1. The consolidation of the ccNSO is a fundamental issue. Facing
all the WSIS/ITU/UN-ICT process will require to have a stronger
communication between all the ccTLD managers, ICANN/IANA and the GIC.
The faster we come to an agreement the stronger our positions will be.
2. For efficiency reasons the ccTLD community must focus their
efforts on just one ccTLD meeting. Considering the time frame for the
next ICANN meetings, and the several work issues that every regional
organization may have, we don't think that having two separate meetings
for the same set of ccTLDs could be efficient, on the contrary, we are
sending fussy messages about how different we are, without letting them
now that we still are the same group with the will to serve our
community.
3. Since the ccNSO meetings are open to any interested ccTLD, we
suggest having this meeting as the one for all the ccTLDs. We should
suggest to the ccNSO members to fit into the agenda the topics raised
by the wwTLD Agenda-Committee, this way we could seat in the same forum
sending one strong message of integration.
4. For those reasons just explained, LACTLD won't be able to
appoint a representative to the Agenda Committee for the next wwTLD
proposed meeting for Kuala Lumpur.
We are confident that we still could make Kuala Lumpur the
beginning of fruitful discussions between ccTLDs.
Yours,
Oscar Robles
